PERTH band Foxton Kings drew inspiration from unrequited love to record their latest EP With Love.

The band is launching the EP at Lucy’s Love Shack in the Perth CBD on March 15 at 7pm before they head east for launches in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Frontman Joel Stevens, of Atwell, said the EP had been a while in the making.

“When we started writing the EP in mid-2017, Alex (Barker-drummer) had just come on board and we were operating as a four-piece with (former members) Cliff Johnson and Dane Koek,” he said.

“We wanted to combine the musical elements that we all connected on in rock, blues, metal/punk with as many of our own individual interests as we could such as funk, rap, pop, prog, house, soul, etc.

“A huge part of our process was about compromise.

“For example, we had a rule where if you disagreed with an idea, you had to provide an alternative, otherwise you’d have to commit to that idea to the best of your ability.

“Essentially, we set out to create a truly collaborative product, however that might have ended up.”

With Love will be officially released in April.

He said they were excited for the launch.

“We are so keen, there’s always a lot of love at our Perth launches,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to try out new ideas in front of a supportive audience who’ll love us no matter what we do.”
