ATWELL Primary School students picked up some new digital microscopy and environmental engineering skills as part of a School Science Challenge recently.

With help from members of Alcoa’s employee volunteering program ACTION, the Year 5 and 6 students participated in the special science workshops as part of the school’s Science Week celebrations.

A $3000 grant will also help Atwell Primary buy microscopes and environmental engineering equipment to continue the lessons learned during the workshops.

Alcoa Global Refining Residue technical manager David Cooling said ACTION grants were an important part of their commitment to building stronger communities.

“It was great to have the support and involvement from the teachers and school and extremely rewarding to see the students’ curiosity sparked and minds at work,” he said.

Almost 400 Alcoa employees are volunteering in local community activities under the ACTION program.
