The group of aggressive bone and soft tissue cancers affects 350 Australians every year, with one in five of those under 18 years of age.
Mandy Basson, co-ordinator of Perth charity ‘Sock it to Sarcoma’, will be at Cockburn Gateway Shopping City on Wednesday to spread the word about the early warning signs of a disease that claimed the life of her 20-year-old daughter Abbie in 2011.
“When Abbie was diagnosed with malignant sarcoma, we knew nothing about this cancer,” she said.

READ NOW“She did her best to fight it and was inspired to set up Sock it to Sarcoma to raise awareness and fund new research into it, so that’s what I dedicate much of my life to now.
“It’s a hugely important mission because the early signs of this cancer can often be dismissed as other things, such as sports injuries, which can mean delays in diagnosis and treatment and that can reduce the chances of beating it.”
The Gateway visit will form part of West Australian Sarcoma Awareness Week.
Just Improvise is also helping Sock it to Sarcoma’s mission, supporting the charity through its fundraising season of family-friendly Theatresports taking place every Sunday this month.
