Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

A NEW park in Cockburn Central was christened with the sound of bouncing basketballs on Friday morning.

Developers of the Mojo Urban Living Residential Estate in Cockburn Central celebrated the opening of their new full basketball court and park with a free clinic, inviting a number of Cockburn Cougars players to pass on their skills and tips to the next generation of players.

Mojo Urban Living’s Travis French said as well as the new court, the park also include a nature-themed playground, outdoor table tennis and multipurpose hit-up wall and grassed area.

“Parks like this are very important, especially as blocks are small these days as who wants to have to maintain a backyard,” he said.

“Events like this help introduce close and not so close neighbours in the area, but also importantly introduce children to new sports, which hopefully leads to lifelong community participation in active healthy environments.”

Day two of the free clinic for children aged five to 11 will be on April 27 from 9am to 11am.

The court is on Paddock Parade (off Muriel Court) in Cockburn Central.
