The 16-year-old will travel to the Gold Coast on Wednesday, chasing the crown and the chance to compete for the international title.

After qualifying for Saturday’s final last December, the Year 11 student said she was keen for the waiting game to be over.

“My main goal in the competition is to be content, positive and humble, to be myself and to make memories with all the girls from across the country,” she said.

“I know a few of the competitors who competed with me in 2014.

“It definitely helps knowing some faces and makes me more calm and excited.”

The national winner will travel to the USA in July to compete for the international crown.

“To be granted the opportunity to represent my country on an international stage would be mind-|blowing,” Jourdyn said.

“All the past winners who have represented Australia have made us so proud and have set a very high and professional standard for future winners.

“It would be an absolute honour to follow in their footsteps.”

Jourdyn has spent the school year to date studying with SEDA College. She said she was keen to take up a career in sports science or sports psychology.

Also travelling to Queensland to the Miss Galaxy Australia pageant is Atwell resident Jade Maclou.

She wants to use the competition to raise awareness of mental illness.
