Bibra Lake mosque donates food for families in need this Christmas

MEMBERS of a Bibra Lake mosque have donated more than $1000 worth of food for local families in need to enjoy this Christmas.

Juices, long life milk, canned food and snacks were among the boxes and bags of food collected by Nasir Mosque members, which was the donated to local not-for-profit Cooby Cares to help families doing it tough.

Nasir Mosque Imam Kamran Tahir said their faith taught them to give to those in need, regardless of skin colour, religion or creed.

“The idea came about when I saw the homelessness within Perth as well as Cockburn and, being originally from England, we always learnt that Christmas was a time of families coming together and giving to those who are not able to enjoy the festivities,” he said.

“After getting in contact with Cooby Cares we set up the food bank last year and now I have turned this into an annual initiative that we will be doing every year during the time of Christmas.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim community will always be at the forefront when it comes to helping a fellow human regardless of their faith, but this time what truly made me happy was that members from outside of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community also came to the mosque to donate food who were not Muslims themselves.

“The Ahmadiyya mosque serves as a place of worship but more so it also serves a place that is part of the community at large and hence it lays a great responsibility upon the members that attend the mosque to help in any way possible and stand shoulder to shoulder when it comes to serving their community.”
