Bibra Lake’s Erin Fischer baking the world a better place

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

THE delicious aroma of baked goods will be wafting out of Erin Fischer’s Bibra Lake home this month as she aims to help young people living with mental health issues.

Ms Fischer, who has been a youth ambassador for online mental health organisation ReachOut for the last four years, will be baking up a storm this month as she takes part in their Raise Dough fundraiser.

As part of the fundraiser she will be hosting an online bake sale, where supporters can make a donation in exchange for a pack of 12 homemade brownies, caramel slice or Neapolitan swirl biscuits.

“I really enjoy baking and I aim to get involved in at least one fundraiser per year, so when Raise Dough started a few years ago it seemed like a great fit for me and my skills,” she said.

“I experience anxiety and have been exposed to stigma and the negative comments people make when it comes to mental health.

“I want to speak up when it comes to mental health and change the tone of these conversations, I want young people to know that it’s ok to be not ok.

“Through events like Raise Dough we can bake the world a better place.”
