Police had been searching for the men since about 10.30pm last night.

Family members of the men contacted police about 9pm after they had failed to return from their trip to Rottnest.

They had left Cockburn Sound the night before in a white 5.5m boat, named ‘Yeah Buoy’.

Water police, volunteer sea rescue groups, Rottnest rangers and local police conducted overnight searches for the vessel without success.

Water Police have asked anyone who may have been boating at Rottnest Island yesterday and observed a white vessel with four people on board to contact them.

The search, between Cockburn Sound, Fremantle and Rottnest Island, continued at first light this morning.
