Cockburn Rotary helps Hammond Park girl with custom built chair

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

THE Rotary Club of Cockburn has helped make life a little easier for a young Hammond Park girl.

Over the last year club members have held community fundraisers to build a custom chair for 11-year-old Mikayla Stokes, who lives with a severe disability.

Rotary Club of Cockburn youth director Simon Watson said the chair has had a positive impact on the lives of Mikayla and her family.

“The parents reached out to rotary asking if there were any grants or funding they could apply for as the funding through the government they received for Mikayla had reached its maximum,” he said.

“Mikayla is a growing active school aged child that requires assistance in all aspects of daily living and this specialised equipment improves comfort for not only her but her parents and carers alike.

“It improves comfort for the child, improves safety of transfer for parents and carers from one chair to another, it can be moved easily around the home, it improves posture and as a result quality of life is improved.”
