Coles introduce special needs trolleys

Bryce LuffCockburn Gazette

SUPERMARKET trolleys designed for children with disabilities are now more widely available with Coles introducing them at all stores in WA.

The specially-designed trolley can seat a child up to 70kg in weight and includes padding, a harness and additional support in its structure.

Its design was based on a US trolley known as Caroline’s Cart.

The trolleys have been trialled successfully at Coles stores in Success and South Lake over the last 12 months, and are now available at all stores across the state.

Australian Network on Disability chief executive Suzanne Colbert welcomed the rollout.

“By having accessible shopping trolleys available in stores across Western Australia, Coles is making it easier for families of children with disability to do their grocery shopping, without the experience causing undue stress or anxiety,” she said.
