Community generosity funds new cricket pitch for Atwell PS

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

COMMUNITY generosity has helped Atwell Primary School replace their old, worn down cricket pitch.

Well used by students as well as the wider community, the school’s ageing cricket pitch was in dire need of replacement when Atwell IGA and Atwell Pharmacy chipped in to help the P&C fund the revamp.

Atwell PS deputy principal Thomas Jones said it had been installed when the school opened 20 years ago.

“It is used most days at recess and lunch times and the wider school community make use of it after school hours and on the weekends,” he said.

“The pitch over the years has deteriorated, it has been patched up but even these sections are pulling apart.

“Over the years unfortunately there have also been cars and motorbikes on the oval that have torn up sections of the pitch.

“Atwell IGA and Atwell Pharmacy without hesitation offered monetary assistance for the purchase and installation of the new cricket pitch and as a school we appreciate any assistance we receive within the local area.”
