Coogee Beach Festival to kick off Australia Day celebrations

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

LIVE entertainment, water slides and even a watermelon eating competition will take over the sand and surf during the Australia Day Coogee Beach Festival.

The event will open with a Welcome to Country from Marie Taylor on the main stage, which will then make way for performances from the Binjareb Middars Aboriginal Dance Group and other entertainers.

There will also be a range of family friendly activities including sandcastle building competition, South Coogee Volunteer Fire Bush Brigade demonstrations, cultural food and sausage sizzles, face painting and a petting zoo.

Professor Fiona Wood, the City of Cockburn’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2019, will also be in attendance.
