Coogee Beach to host Australia Day celebrations

COOGEE Beach will be the place to be this Australia Day as the City of Cockburn holds its annual celebratory festival.

The beach and park will come alive with a stack of family-friendly events scheduled throughout the day.

Local acts such as Binjareb Middars Dance Group and bands in the form of Chilli Con Curly, the Bradley Hall Band and Down Town Band will be playing in the park throughout the day, while there will be watermelon eating and sandcastle building competitions at the beach.

A free sausage sizzle and multicultural food stalls, a basket-weaving exhibition, mermaid meetings and demonstrations from South Coogee Volunteer Fire Bush Brigade are among other attractions.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a water bottle, sun-screen and cash as there will be no eftpos machines available.

Due to the celebrations, Access to Powell Road will be closed from 6am-1pm, with attendees urged to park opposite the beach off Cockburn Road and at Coogee Hall off Howick Court.

People can access Coogee Beach Cafe or regular beach parking via Orsino Boulevard.
