Coogee: divers organise clean up at Ammo Jetty

Bryce LuffCockburn Gazette

A LOCAL diving group is aiming to give back to a popular recreation spot with a clean up scheduled for Coogee’s Ammo Jetty on Saturday.

With the recent long weekend and large schools of salmon attracting hundreds of anglers, Bucket List Diver co-owner and event co-organiser Kate Scollary said the area could use a spruce up.

“There’s always a lot of fishing gear, nets, towels, clothes and lures,” she said.

“But it’s not just the water. The beach and car park is always pretty smashed.”

Volunteers, including divers and Sea Shepherd’s local Marine Debris Team, collected more than 12,500 items from the land and water during a clean up in February.

Among the haul was more than 5km of fishing line.

Saturday’s event, which will be held between 9.30am and 12.30pm, will be held as part of World Oceans Day.
