Expat inspired by Australiana colours

WHEN Tamsin Richardson wanted to send gifts back home with an Australian vibe, she took matters into her own hands.

Originally from the Lake District in northwest England, the Munster graphic designer began Braw Paper Co about a year ago with the idea to harness Australian landscapes, flora and fauna in appealing homeware, giftware and stationary.

“Being from the northwest of England, it was hard to find Australian gifts to send home that weren’t cheesy,” she said.

“I love the colours of Australia; it’s much more vibrant than the UK.

“We love going camping as a family and that’s where I take photos of the flowers and the birds, which then become my designs.”

Mrs Richardson will be among the stallholders at the Made on the Left Christmas Markets, which will be held at Esplanade Park in Fremantle on November 16 and 17.

From 10am to 5pm there will be more than 100 stalls showcasing independently made art, design, fashion and homewares.

“Made on the Left is excellent because there’s expats like myself who want to send something Aussie to family overseas but they don’t want it to be too kitsch,” Mrs Richardson said.

“It symbolises where they live and I aim to create something more modern.”
