Firefighters tackle ship yard flames

LARGE clouds of black smoke have alerted emergency services to a ship yard in Henderson this afternoon.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Service received a call of a fire at Australian Marine Complex on Quill Way, near Cockburn Road at 3.40pm.

A DFES spokesperson said oil drums caught on fire under HMAS Darwin, which was a vessel no longer used by the Navy.

The amount of smoke generated from the fire has caused DFES to issue a hazmat warning for the area but the fire was controlled by 4.46pm.
