Freeway reopened after firefighters extinguish blaze

FIREFIGHTERS have extinguished a bushfire which jumped the Kwinana Freeway and was threatening lives and homes in Atwell and Success.

The all clear has been given, but firefighters will monitor the area for the rest of the night.

Kwinana Freeway between Armadale Road and Russell Road has reopened but traffic remains heavy.

Trains on the Mandurah line between Cockburn and Rockingham have resumed, but services may not be running to schedule.

The fire started near the intersection of St Claire Gardens and Paradise Grove in Atwell, reported just after 2pm.

Firefighters are patrolling the area and mopping up.

Motorists are urged to drive slowly and with caution due to smoke and emergency services personnel working in the area.
