MUSIC echoed through the Lakeland Senior High School grounds during a special event between the school and West Australian Music.

Fremantle band Cosy visited the school to hold a live performance for the Specialist Music Technology program students, as well as running them through a song writing workshop.

Lakeland SHS music head Ray Foo said the students were then able to perform the original compositions they had created.

“We will continue to develop these songs over the course of the coming year.

“It’s always inspirational for students to meet great local bands.”

WAM audience development officer Em Burrows said the workshops, which ran under Healthway’s Act-Belong-Commit program, were a great way to encourage creativity among students.

“We love to see young people meeting local bands who they can look to as role models,” she said.

“Encouraging young audiences to connect with original local music and to write their own songs is so exciting and gratifying.”
