FUNDING has been secured to extend Perth’s Better Health Program until 2021.

Department of Health funding will allow the free healthy lifestyle program to run locally until June 30, 2021, giving more help to children aged seven to 13 who are considered overweight or obese.

WA project manager Chris Vavakis said the fun and interactive program helped children and their families manage their weight and improve their eating and exercise habits in a weekly two-hour session over 10 weeks.

“The program is delivered in a fun, friendly and family focused manner, it encourages children to give new things a go and shows parents how they can be supportive and involve the whole family in making healthier choices and following an active lifestyle.

“Children become healthier and fitter while their self-esteem and confidence increase greatly”.

The program is available in Canning, Cockburn, Rockingham, Stirling and Joondalup.
