A SIX month trial of a weekly farmers and artisan market at Hamilton Hill’s Manning Park will begin this Saturday.

Highlighting how Cockburn is still home to many market gardens and growers, Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said 70 per cent of stallholders would be local producers.

Market manager Kylie Wheatley said baristas, bakers and passionate foodies would serve a range of treats.

“With freshly picked produce and fish and bacon smoked a few hundred metres from the site, the market will showcase traditional makers and bakers plus more contemporary items like gluten free bread stalls, fermenters and Tokyo street food,” she said.

The event will also include live music, a morning blessing by visiting Gyuto Monks from Tibet and children’s artisan craft activities.

It will be held just off Azelia Road between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
