SOUTHWELL Primary School students celebrated the start of a new school year with an enjoyable walk and delicious breakfast on Thursday morning.

The day started with a ‘walking school bus’, which stepped off from three different points around Hamilton Hill and invited students and their families to join a convoy and enjoy a stroll in the great outdoors.

Once at school the students tucked into a delicious breakfast spread which included bacon and egg rolls and fresh fruit.

Southwell PS principal Elizabeth Melville said the event was part of the school’s effort to engage with their community.

“A sense of belonging and connectedness to school is a prominent feature in a child’s wellbeing, especially in a small school where knowing everyone is an advantage for children,” she said.

“We know that family and school partnerships underpin success at school so, to promote this important link, Southwell holds this event to get the message out to the community that they are important.

“Events such as this are an example of how we actively work to create opportunities to engage parents, families and communities in improving the education outcomes for students.”
