A NEW community centre in Hamilton Hill will celebrate its public launch with a fun for all open day.

The Hub 6163 is a volunteer run community centre, created through the Hamilton Hill Community Group, that aims to bring locals together for a range of artistic, musical or social endeavours including movie and pizza nights, a choir, writing and craft workshops and yoga classes for adults and pre-schoolers.

There are also a number of workshops in the pipeline for the rest of the year, including craft, cereamics, sewing, singalongs and a barista course.

The centre’s open day will have a range of activities to enjoy including free pizza and coffee, fun for the children and musical performances.

The Hub 6163 volunteer Alan Hancock said there had been a noticeable need for more community centres in Cockburn.

“Community hubs and one-stop-shops have become buzz-words within government as communities increasingly demand responsive services and spaces where people can participate in services, group activities, hobbies, and advocacy,” he said.

“People will not only connect with other people in their community, make new connections or reconnect with other community members, but also learn some new skills and perhaps develop their interest further.”

He said anyone interested in a workshop, or simply finding out more, should attend the open day.

“People will be able to find out what is happening at the hub, what is planned and also be able to provide information about what they would like to see happen at the hub,” he said.

The Hub 6163’s open day is on November 17 from 1.30pm to 6pm on Starling Street, Hamilton Hill.
