After graduating from ECU’s youth work studies in 2005, the Hamilton Hill resident began his youth work career assisting highly marginalised and disengaged young people.

He now works in Anglicare WA’s Street Connect program delivering street-based outreach.

Mr Crasto said his passion was in the youth outreach sector and though formal recognition from his peers was nice he did not do it for awards or acclaim.

“I have worked in many roles over the past decade but I have returned to this sector several times,” he said.

“I enjoy working out on the front line with this very raw client group, the ones that kind of slip through the cracks, that not many other services can reach.”

Mr Crasto runs Anglicare’s mobile youth resource centre, providing information, support, referral and advocacy to homeless and street present youth aged 15 to 25.

The WA Youth Awards has named 24 finalists this year.

“Many of these young people have overcome extremely challenging situations and exemplify the qualities of resilience, determination and perseverance that our future generations hold,” Youth Minister Peter Tinley said.

WA Youth Award winners will be announced on October 12 at the State Theatre Centre.
