Hewson’s hip pic a hit

The picture was snapped by Community Newspaper Group photographer Jon Hewson in June last year for a story about Ms Twomey’s not-for-profit group, Healthy Hips Australia.

The snap was part of the portfolio that helped Hewson claim the best suburban photographer category at the 2015 WA Media Awards.

It is also part of the collection Hewson used to scoop second at the 2016 WA Press Photography Awards in the same category.

Ms Twomey said she was excited about the potential the image had to increase awareness of Healthy Hips Australia and its work addressing hip dysplasia – a failure of the hip joints to develop normally – which over time decreases the function in the joints. It affects about four in every 1000 babies.

The issue will be highlighted this week, with Australia’s first Healthy Hips Week event running until this Saturday.
