A JANDAKOT based gym program is helping children and teenagers become more active while building their mental health and confidence.

The Beyond Limits primary school program uses play, teamwork, simple movements and fun to introduce children to the gym environment and promote movement, while the high school program focuses on functional training and showing participants the proper techniques to exercise effectively.

Beyond Limits owner Justin Borg said more and more children were overweight or obese but that they wanted this program to have more than just a physical impact by helping kids focus on what they can achieve, rather than how they look.

“The kids program was created for a number of reasons, our children are not immune to the modern lifestyle, fast food or slow movement and technology is becoming an increasing problem with many kids choosing this over playing outside or exercising,” he said.

“I also noticed an increase in the number of young teenagers wanting to join the local gym with little or no understanding of what to do or how to control their body movements, so being able to educate them is very important.

“It is important for children to learn about a balanced lifestyle at a young age and if we can get more children into a practise of exercise it will become second nature.

“By providing an environment for children to build self confidence, an environment without judgement and an opportunity for them to celebrate their success, we help them build the mental strength to handle whatever battles may arise.”

The programs are held at Beyond Limits Health and Fitness in Jandakot.
