IMLAH Court in Jandakot is set to be closed at the intersection of The Lakes Boulevard in a move by the City of Cockburn to stop motorists using it as a bypass between Berrigan Drive and the Jandakot industrial area.

In a report to City councillors on May 11, an officer said complaints about traffic using The Lakes and Imlah rather than local distributor Prinsep Road had filtered in consistently for years.

The City tried to deter non-local motorists from using the roads by installing an “oval slow point” on Imlah and a raised plateau at the northern end of The Lakes in mid-2011, with little success.

Ongoing monitoring by the council has confirmed traffic volumes on the two roads “continue to grow significantly”.

Of the more than 2600 vehicle movements along The Lakes on an average weekday, just 29 per cent of those were generated by residents living on the street.

Nine per cent of all movements came from heavy vehicles.

“This report proposes the closure of one end of Imlah Court to prevent through traffic and address this traffic issue permanently,” the officer’s report read.

Councillors voted the motion through 7-1.
