Cockburn Central Town Centre Association chairman and event organiser Doug Weir said more than 1500 people attended the March 13 event.

“It was fantastic to see the kids having a good time,” he said.

“Discussions are already underway regarding an event for 2017 and we would gladly welcome any volunteers who are interested in getting involved.”

One of the main attractions of the event was the transformation of Signal Terrace into a 150m track, with more than 100 racers taking part.

There were other attractions as well, with dragsters, hotrods, go-karts, stock cars, slot cars and Formula 1 simulators packing the busy train station precinct.

Another function of the event was to raise money for the eating disorders program at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Mr Weir said the final tally of funds raised was still to be calculated but the event was already a huge success.
