THE saying ‘behind every great man is a great woman’ is something Cockburn mayor Logan Howlett fully believes.

March 5 was a special day in Mr Howlett’s career, marking 10 years since he was first sworn in as Cockburn mayor, but he credits his wife Patricia for most of what he has achieved over the last decade.

“The support of my wife Patricia is an integral aspect of all that I do in the role of Mayor,” he said.

First elected on March 5, 2009 during an extraordinary election before being popularly re-elected in October of 2009, 2013 and 2017, Mr Howlett said it had been a complex and demanding role that was ultimately rewarding and satisfying.

He named some prominent projects and battles among the biggest achievements of his tenure, including preventing Cockburn from being broken up during the local government reform process, the construction of facilities such as Cockburn ARC and the Cockburn Integrated Health and Community Facility as well as the continued growth of residential, commercial and retail offerings in the area.

He said the future continued to look bright for the City and its residents.

“There are so many great things happening across Cockburn,” he said.

“As opportunities unfold I will continue to work to ensure Cockburn continues as a leader in service delivery and that those special places within our neighbourhoods that make us proud to call Cockburn our home, our place of work and small business ownership continue to be enhanced.

“It is about people and their interaction with each other that builds resilience, sustainability and peace of mind.”

The current mayoral term expires in October 2021.
