JANDAKOT Primary School’s Beverley Bennett has seen many a change in her three decades on the job.
Since starting as the Jandakot PS library officer more than 30 years ago, Ms Bennett has seen thousands of students come through the school as well as a site change in 1992 after they outgrew their Poletti Road campus and moved to their current Baningan Avenue home.
On Friday the school will undergo another change after Ms Bennett announced her retirement.
She said she had enjoyed seeing the school grow during her tenure.
“I started at the old Jandakot Primary School in Beenyup (now Poletti) Road and there were only 90 students, whereas now we have in excess of 500,” she said.
“The school went from one brick building, one weatherboard building (which is now heritage listed), and four transportables into the air conditioned buildings we have today, computerisation, internet and technology etc.
“(The decision to retire) was fairly difficult as it has become a big part of my life and it will be a big change for me.
“I will miss the children and the staff that I have known for a long time.”
In honour of her service a section of the Jandakot PS library will be renamed the Bev Bennett Reading Corner.
