New children’s hip hop album delves into different families

LOCAL musicians have created a new children’s hip hop album that discusses the different types of families in the community.

The Cuddly Koalas is a local group of families and artists who decided a good way to achieve their aim of creating meaningful children’s music was to produce an album that talked about all the different family blends that could be found in a community.

Southern River artist Anjana Gajan said the first single off the Happy Families album Jamerah and her Dads, which includes four-year-old Nikita Gajan, had been played on radio stations in South Africa and the United States.

She said they hoped second single Dylan and his Mums, released on October 24 and featuring local rapper Gajan Maheson and six-year-old Keeran Owen, would also resonate with listeners.

“Our key message is to create awareness and respect of different types of families amongst young children,” she said.

“There are songs about rainbow families, adoption, a single parent family, a family with a mum and dad and about extended family.

“It is a perfect time for an important message like ours to be communicated to the wider Australian community since same sex marriage has been legalised and we will be seeing a lot of rainbow families in the future.

“Families have changed over the years and young children need to be aware of this so that they all learn to respect each other’s families and circumstances starting from a young age.”

The first two tracks are available from www.amazon.com.

Happy Families is due for release in June 2019.
