New green delights Spearwood Bowling Club

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

A BRAND new green at the Spearwood Bowling Club was officially opened on Friday.

Spearwood Bowling Club president Ivan Perica said the members were grateful for the new surface, which had been one of Cockburn MLA Fran Logan’s election promises.

“The replacement was due to the old green being worn out,” he said.

“The new green had to have a solid base put in, whereas the old one had been placed on compacted sand and we had many complaints from visiting clubs that the surface was not of a suitable standard.

“Now we will be able to have carnivals which are a great fundraising avenue for the club and the members are ecstatic to be able to bowl on greens that are as good as the best available in the state.”

Mr Perica said locals interested in trying out the sport were invited to visit the club on Sundays between 10am and 11.30am. He said bowls were provided for individuals and groups who want to play and the first two sessions are free.
