POLICE are hunting an arsonist who officers believe started a bushfire in Perth on New Year’s Eve.

Strike Force Vulcan officers are investigating a bushfire that started in Bibra Lake around 5.35pm on Tuesday.

The fire started in bushland on Bushland Ridge in the light industrial area, and the cause is being treated as suspicious

A spokesman for WA Police said the fire burnt through a large section of bushland before Department of Fire and Emergency Services air and ground assets were able to gain control and extinguish the fire.

“Investigators wish to speak to a man sighted riding a bicycle in the vicinity of the fire, carrying a large camera and taking photos of the fire. He was wearing a grey shirt and had a beard,” he said.

“Members of the public who were driving in the Bushland Ridge, Sustainable Ave and Discovery Drive area between 5.15pm and 6pm who have dash-cam vision of the area are asked to come forward.”

Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
