PHOENIX Primary School will be left $4000 out of pocket following the theft of two shade sails last month.

The sails, two of four near the kindergarten’s sandpit and play area, were attached with steel cables but unfortunately not covered by the Education Department’s insurance policy.

Principal Margaret Pretty said she hoped by putting out word of the theft it may jog someone’s memory if they’d seen something suspicious.

“As a resident whose home faces on to Phoenix Primary School I am sure you are aware of the effort we go to ensuring our students have the best playground facilities we can supply to maximise their outdoor experiences,” she said.

“We are calling on our neighbours to see if anybody saw this happening.

“The thieves came prepared with an angle grinder as they were attached with stainless steel cable so the theft was very blatant, and very callous – stealing from kindergarten children.

“We would appreciate any information you can give us, which will be forwarded to the police.”

The incident was reported to police.
