Students enjoy first week at brand new primary schools

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

AFTER a year of only kindergarten and pre-primary students, two new local primary schools have opened their doors to a full student body.

Aspiri Primary School in Piara Waters and Southern Grove Primary School in Southern River have welcomed a full cohort of kindergarten to Year 6 students for the first time in 2019.

They were two of seven new WA schools to open last week.

Education and Training minister Sue Ellery visited Aspiri Primary on Friday, saying it would be a great school for the more than 520 students already enrolled there.

“This new school is an asset to its local community, and is already providing a high-quality education to its students,” she said.

“This was part of a $468.7 million investment to build and improve WA public schools.”

They are not the last of the new schools in the area, with a new high school in Hammond Park set to open in 2020 and further primary schools on the way in Byford (2020) Harrisdale (2020) and Southern River (2021).
