Three gyms unite in fundraiser for Cooby Cares

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

MEMBERS from three local gyms will put their strength to the test in a fundraising challenge for Cooby Cares.

Representatives from Bibra Lake’s The Tribe STM, Yangebup’s Athlete X and Booragoon’s The Physique Code will be aiming to complete as many lifts as possible during the Deadlifts for Charity event, with the goal to raise $1 for every 3kg lifted.

The Tribe STM’s Josh Metuariki said they raised $2500 for Cooby Cares during last year’s event and were looking to better it in 2019.

“We are always looking at ways in which we can give back to the community, bring local businesses together and our clients enjoy doing deadlifts so we thought why not use this as an opportunity to raise some money whilst having fun,” he said.

“There are 60 competitors from the three gyms participating on the day, each lifter has three opportunities to attempt their best deadlift, the bigger the amount of weight lifted or the more people involved then the more money we are able to raise.”

Mr Metuariki said money would be raised in a number of ways including donations by spectators on the day, business sponsorships of $1 for every 3kg lifted on the final attempt.

The Deadlifts for Charity fundraiser is on July 25.
