Opening with former Test batsman Marcus Trescothick, Abell crunched 14 fours in an innings of 101 off 183 deliveries to help his side to a healthy 6-370 off 78 overs.

The early-season score followed a stellar WACA Premier Cricket spell in which Abell quickly positioned himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the league.

The 22-year-old finished the first-grade season with 611 runs at 47, punctuated by two centuries and four half-centuries.

He also snagged 20 wickets with the ball at an average of just 16 runs per wicket.

His all-round game earned him second spot in the race for the Olly Cooley Medal, handed to the league’s player of the season.

Abell was also the only Fremantle player to make the 12-man Team of the Year.

Capping off a great year, the import also took out Fremantle’s Marsh Medal for being the club’s best first-grade player.
