FREMANTLE has gotten to work building for 2018 by re-signing 18 players from its inaugural AFLW season, including marquee players Kara Donnellan and Kiara Bowers.

Donnellan capped a successful first season of the competition with selection in the All Australian squad, while Bowers missed through injury.

Donnellan said that it was important for Fremantle to retain key players for 2018.

“I’m really excited to get going again and to continue what we started last season,” she said.

“We’ve kept together a very strong group of girls.

“It’s obviously really important to keep a core group together. We’ve built some really good relationships over the past eight months.”

The AFLW has increased squad sizes in 2018 to 27 players, with a further three rookie list spots available.

Fremantle will be looking to secure nine players and three rookies during the October draft.

Fremantle has picks two, 10, 18 and 26 in the opening four rounds.
