Cricket: opening matches fall foul of rain

RAIN on Saturday washed out the opening matches in two local cricket leagues.

All games in the Premier Cricket competition, including Fremantle Districts’ one-day match against Subiaco Floreat, were abandoned because of heavy rain.

The result might have been a reprieve for Fremantle, who had to play without Ashton Turner, Jake Carder and Jhye Richardson.

Both teams have been given three points for the drawn game.

Fremantle will next play Joondalup in another one-day match on October 15 at the Iluka Sports Complex.

The South Metropolitan Cricket Association’s round one games were also abandoned.

Phoenix was set to play Thornlie, while Cockburn matched up with Armadale and East Fremantle had Bicton Attadale.

Fixtures on October 15 have East Fremantle playing CBC at Preston Point Reserve while Cockburn play Phoenix at Davilak Reserve.
