Fremantle girls team win AFL curtain-raiser against Ellenbrook

Inclement weather was not enough to dampen the spirit – or the skills – of the young girls who dominated in front of goals to beat Ellenbrook 9.10 (64) to 5.3 (33).

South Fremantle district representative Kym Hart said the game supported the development of junior and youth football in the state. “The game was amazing,” she said. “A great day was had by all except for the Dockers’ loss,” she said.

“We have 25 future football stars of tomorrow from Freo city with similar numbers for Ellenbrook all girls.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to play the greatest game in the world – AFL Football.

“The fastest growing division in football is women’s football and their ever-growing fan base. We need to provide as many opportunities for all girls at various levels to participate in football.”
