ANYONE heading for a swim around Yangebup sisters Imogen and Phoebe Ashworth can be assured they’re in safe hands.
The Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club duo took to the water for Surf Life Saving WA’s Pool Rescue State Championships recently, coming away with a dozen medals and two state records between them.
Fifteen-year-old Phoebe had nine medals hung around her neck, including gold in the 200m medley relay where she and her Fremantle teammates also set a new state record, while younger sister Imogen (13) also won a trio of silvers as well as earning gold and a state record in the line throw event.

Imogen said they were both really happy with their performances and that she was especially proud given a recent setback.
“I didn’t think I would be at my strongest as I broke my leg in two places 12 months ago,” she said.
“I was feeling nervous but I knew that I could push myself.”
Phoebe, who will soon head to the Gold Coast after she was selected for the state team, said she was really excited to be able to take her abilities to the next level.
“I am excited and nervous to compete over in Queensland as it’s at the Commonwealth Games pool,” she said.
“I would also love to represent Australia at the Lifesaving World Championships on the Gold Coast in 2024.”
They both agreed lifesaving was a sport others should try.
“I would recommend lifesaving to anyone it opens up so many opportunities to develop new skills and meet new friends,” Imogen said.
