NETBALL WA will launch a brand new Metro League in early 2019.

Under the new league, metropolitan and country associations from around the state will compete against each other at the State Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association on Friday nights.

More than 50 teams are expected to compete in the U14, U16, U18 and open divisions.

The new competition has been created to support the West Australian Netball League (WANL).

Netball WA chief executive Simon Taylor said the sport was going through some exciting transformations.

“Metro League will play an important role in netball cementing its position as the leading sport for women and girls in Western Australia,” he said.

“Netball is the largest female participation sport in Western Australia, and this competition will be critical in the development of our athletes so that we have more West Australians representing West Coast Fever, and ultimately, the Samsung Diamonds.

“The League will operate with a clear purpose to bridge the gap between club netball and the West Australian Netball League, and I am confident that the standard will be of the highest quality.”

The Metro League competition will run from February to April.
