Quartet to swim for Youth Focus at Rottnest Channel Swim

Jessica NicoCockburn Gazette

HELPING young people in their greatest time of need was enough of a reason for a local quartet to sign up for the Rottnest Channel Swim.

Hamilton Hill’s Jan Florey floated the idea of competing with a few of her friends and it wasn’t long before the Jayson and the Aquanauts team was formed and training hard for this weekend’s gruelling 20km event.

Teammate and South Lake resident Sandie Fonseca said they chose Youth Focus as their charity because her family knew first hand how important the organisation was in providing free counselling to young people with mental health issues.

“It takes a lot of time to train, a lot of focus, a lot of dedication and time away from family and friends so having a cause like Youth Focus helps focus us and ensure that every effort is worthwhile because you can focus on the ‘bigger picture’,” she said.
