THE Liberal Party will contribute $10 million towards the upgrade of the Armadale Aquatic Centre if it wins the Federal election, Justice Minister Michael Keenan announced on Sunday.
He said the funding was needed to make the facility available to the public all year-round.
“At the moment it can only be used in summer and we want to make sure that Armadale has world class facilities,” he said.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the commitment was a much-needed shot in the arm for the community.
“This commitment is just reward for the patience and forbearance of the people of our district who have been told repeatedly that they have to wait to have an all year round heated facility,” he said.
The City would save $16 million in loans and interest payments if the Federal Government committed $10 million to the project.
