WHETHER bicycles are used as a mode of transport, form of exercise or just for a bit of fun, road rules, safety and etiquette are always important to remember.

The City of Gosnells has received a boost in their bid to bring bicycle education to the community with a $30,000 Local Projects Local Jobs grant.

Gosnells mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the State Government grant would be used to hold a number of events and workshops over the coming months.

“Encouraging community members to hop on their bikes is hugely beneficial for the City,” he said.

“Riding a bike can improve our physical and mental health, it’s a low-cost form of transport and it’s a great way to reduce our environmental footprint.

“It’s great for anyone, from children to seniors, but it’s also important to educate bike riders how to keep themselves safe on the roads, and keep other road users and pedestrians safe.”

Upcoming events on the calendar include a family bicycle maintenance workshop on August 25 and Rusty Riders on September 8, both at Mills Park.
