A ROLEYSTONE resident has written a book designed to educate children about the dangers of lighting fires.

Chris Cairns has been volunteering her time with the Roleystone Volunteer Fire Brigade for more than 20 years and has also worked with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services on juvenile fire awareness.

She was asked to write a book six years ago to educate young people about the dangers of fires.

The Byford Primary School teacher wrote a book called Aaron’s Promise.

Ms Cairns and her son Aaron joined the Roleystone Volunteer Fire Brigade at the same time, although Aaron only stayed for a year.

“I took up the challenge to write a book about a little boy who found a lighter and took it home and lit paper in his bedroom,” she said.

“It has a few key messages on fire safety.

“In the end, the boy burns down the house and promises to never do it again.”

Ms Cairns said she was happy to do anything she could to help people understand the consequences of fire.

“I am really pleased with that; I have been a volunteer firefighter for 22 years and live in a bushfire-prone area,” she said.
