Area to trial ‘country policing’ method proposed for Perth

The model, announced last week, is expected to begin in November and relies on a District Control Centre co-ordinating response teams, local police teams and investigation teams to improve service delivery.

The control centre will despatch response teams to high-priority tasks and local police teams will tackle the ongoing issues.

Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan said the trial would be conducted in the South East Metropolitan district, as it was the busiest of all districts, accounting for about a quarter of all reported incidents in the metropolitan regions.

He said the enhanced co-ordination and separated-out functions would allow police to be more effective and better use intelligence to address emerging crime issues.
