Armadale and Gosnells both set for modest rate rises

Ben Smith and Jessica WarrinerComment News

RATES are set to go up by 2 per cent in the City of Armadale and 2.5 per cent in the City of Gosnells over the next financial year.

Next financial year is a revaluation year for all properties rated on their Gross Rental Value (GRV), with the revaluation applying for the next three years.

Differential rates in Armadale will be levied on all rateable land other than rural in three groups – vacant land, residential improved land, and improved land zoned for business purposes.

The City of Armadale said applying differential rates allowed for the fairest share of costs.

While the proposed rate increase in Armadale is 2 per cent, some properties will receive an increase greater than that and some will receive a rate decrease depending on their GRV increase or decrease on their previous valuation.

In Gosnells, the minimum rate has been raised to $949 across both GRV and Unimproved Value (UV) properties.

As a result of the GRV and UV revaluation decreasing 2.24 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively in Gosnells, the rate in the dollar for each category has been adjusted accordingly.

The City of Gosnells said the higher rate in the dollar was to ensure the City could continue to provide necessary works and services.

Ratepayers have until 4.45pm on Friday, June 23 in Armadale and 4pm Wednesday June 21 in Gosnells to make written submissions on the proposed differential rates and minimum payments.

Armadale submissions can be emailed to info@armadale.wa.gov.au, forwarded to Locked Bag 2, Armadale 6992, or hand delivered to the administration centre at 7 Orchard Avenue, Armadale.

Gosnells submissions should be forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer, City of Gosnells PO Box 662, Gosnells WA 6990.
