THE Soul Sisters are planning one epic performance when they open the Armadale Arts Festival on April 1.

The duo, comprising Katherine John and Lilly Gogos, who both grew up in the Armadale area, will be opening the festival with a performance at the Happy Gathering Restaurant on Jull Street.

Ms John said Soul Sisters was going to have a similar vibe to the Fringe Festival, where a tent would be set up outside the restaurant.

“Soul Sisters is basically going through the history of great divas songstresses,” she said.

“We are going to be playing items from Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield and even Adele.”

Although Ms John has had a distinguished career working and gigging overseas in Los Angeles, she said she was especially looking forward to this one as she had the chance to give back to the community.

Ms John and Ms Gogos have never worked together before.

The City of Armadale approached both of them to work together as part of Soul Sisters. They will also be supported by some backup vocalists and a band to open the show.

Ms John said she had never heard anything quite vocally impressive as this.

“It is nice to get to know her and share her music with her,” she said.

“It’s going great. It has been very hectic. Putting a show together of that level musically is quite challenging in a short space of time but it’s going to be epic.”
