ABORIGINAL and Torres Strait culture and people was celebrated at the City of Armadale’s Naidoc Week event on Tuesday.
The free community event was held at Memorial Park and included a traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony, live entertainment, information stalls, family-friendly activities and hubs for elders, youth, children and women.
Armadale mayor Henry Zelones said it had been a “wonderful event”.
“Memorial Park was a hive of activity throughout the day attracting passing foot traffic and shoppers who enjoyed watching the traditional smoking ceremony and joined in the celebrations,” he said.
“The local Elders enjoyed the day and were very happy with the central location this year, however they look forward to the NAIDOC celebrations returning next year to the newly refurbished Champion Centre.”
