ARMADALE Men’s Shed is set to open its doors to the public to share their projects, a tale or two, and a spot of pool.
Members will be on hand for the November open days to answer questions about being involved in a men’s shed, and what kind of benefits they offer both members and the wider community.
Graham Sampson was Armadale Community Men’s Shed Inc’s previous chairperson, and has been involved with the group since 2008.

READ NOW“I was the director at the Rotary Club, and we found a lot of interest in starting a men’s shed,” Mr Sampson said.
“Men have a lot to offer in retirement; all the skills they’ve built up over time, they can offer to the community.”
Mr Sampson said there were about 23 men on the books at the Men’s Shed, with anywhere up to 80 people coming through.
From woodworking to metal potting tables, and members taking on radio broadcasting and more, the men are constantly working on something new.
“It’s not only beneficial to themselves, but also the other guys at the shed,” he said.
“Sometimes guys get involved in a project that’s a little bit too big for them, so it’s helpful to get other people onside for that cross fertilisation of ideas, and sharing experiences and skills.”
The open days are part of the City of Armadale’s Positive Ageing Seniors Festival, with the public invited to visit the shed at 2 Tudor Road.
“We’ll be stripping down old machinery and things like that, and there’s any number of craft ideas,” Mr Sampson said.
“We’ll also have pool shed championships for a couple of dollars to find out who’s the pool shark of Armadale. Everyone who comes down, we’ll find them something to do.”
The open days take place on Saturday November 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 9am to noon.
